Soongsil University (숭실대학교) is one of Seoul's well-established private universities, known for strong programs in computer science, AI, and engineering. Located in Dongjak-gu near Soongsil University Station (Line 7), it offers direct subway access to Gangnam in around 15 minutes — one of the best-connected university locations in Seoul for students who need to get around the city. This guide covers the Korean Language Institute, on-campus dormitories, and off-campus housing options nearby.

Soongsil University Dormitory
Soongsil KLI students can apply for on-campus dormitory housing — but spots are limited. The official FAQ notes that dorm capacity may be insufficient for all applicants, and recommends looking into off-campus options as a backup.
Apply for dormitory at the time of your KLI application (note it on the online form or download the form from the document library).

💡 The Global Brain Hall 4-person room at ₩477,000 per semester is among the most affordable dorm options at any major Seoul university. If you can manage a shared room, this is very competitive for central Seoul.
Soongsil University Off-Campus Housing
Students who don't secure a dorm spot typically look in the areas around Soongsil University Station and the adjacent neighborhoods.
Sangdo-dong (상도동) — The Main Student Area
Sangdo is the primary residential area for Soongsil students living off campus. Since Soongsil and Chung-Ang University are both nearby, the area serves students from both schools and has a well-developed student commercial district as a result.
💡 If you're also considering Chung-Ang University, the Heukseok area overlaps with Sangdo — worth reading the [LINK: chung-ang-university-housing-guide] guide as well since the two neighborhoods share a lot of the same housing stock.
| Room type | Monthly rent | Deposit |
|---|---|---|
| One-room (원룸) | ₩500,000 – ₩550,000 | ₩5,000,000 – ₩20,000,000 |
| One-bedroom (방 2개) | ₩800,000 – ₩900,000 | ₩5,000,000 – ₩20,000,000 |
- Quiet and clean residential environment — generally calm compared to busier student areas like Sinchon or Hongdae
- Plenty of student-friendly cafes, cheap restaurants, and study cafes
- Good security — main road nearby keeps the area well-lit and active
- Seodal Mountain (서달산) and Noryangjin Park nearby for outdoor access
- Line 7 direct to Gangnam
- The area is hilly — walking to campus isn't realistic for most routes. Village bus (마을버스 01) is the main commute option, but gets congested 8–9am; some students walk during peak hours instead
- Supermarkets are limited in the immediate area — you'll need to go a bit further for grocery shopping
- Officetels are relatively scarce compared to other student areas — one-room villas are the dominant housing type
Soongsil University Station Area (숭실대입구역)
The area immediately around the station is a dense student commercial zone — cafes, restaurants, convenience stores, and small shops line the streets near campus. Most off-campus students live within a 10–15 minute walk.
| Room type | Monthly rent | Deposit |
|---|---|---|
| One-room (원룸) | ₩450,000 – ₩650,000 | ₩5,000,000 – ₩10,000,000 |
| Officetel | ₩600,000 – ₩850,000 | ₩5,000,000 – ₩20,000,000 |
