Ewha Womans University Housing: A Complete Guide for Foreign Students

Ewha Womans University sits at the heart of one of Seoul's most vibrant student districts.

Whether you're enrolling in the Ewha Language Center (ELC), applying for a degree program, or figuring out where to live before you arrive — this guide covers tuition fees, on-campus dorm options, and off-campus housing near Ewha, with verified prices from official sources.

How Much Does Ewha Womans University Cost?

Ewha is a private women's university founded in 1886 — the largest women's university in the world.

Both the language program and the surrounding neighborhood reflect the university's premium reputation, with rents in the Ewha area among the highest of any major university district in Seoul.

Ewha Womans University Korean Language Program (ELC)

The Ewha Language Center (ELC / 언어교육원) runs the university's Korean language program, offering intensive instruction across levels 1–6.

Classes run Monday to Friday, typically 09:10–13:00 (morning session).

The program places strong emphasis on speaking skills and has its own textbook series developed specifically for ELC students.

💡 ELC offers several scholarships for outstanding students — including the ELC Siblings Scholarship, ELC Seon Scholarship, and ELC Family Scholarship. Students who earn the top grade in their level and re-register for the following semester receive 50% off tuition (2 students per level 1–3, 1 student per level 4–5). Scholarships cannot be combined.

Degree Programs (학부 / 대학원)

Ewha undergraduate and graduate programs are open to women only. Tuition varies by department. For the most current figures, visit the Office of International Affairs or contact the International Student Affairs Team at goabroad@ewha.ac.kr

As with most universities in Seoul, housing is often the bigger monthly variable once you're enrolled — and it's harder to figure out from abroad.

Ewha Womans University Dorms for Language Students

ELC Intensive Program students can apply for the on-campus International House (I-House), which has several dormitory buildings with different room configurations. A maximum of 2 semesters of dorm residence is allowed.

Ewha Womans University Off-Campus Housing

Many ELC and degree students live off campus, in the area around Ewha Womans University Station (이대역, Line 2). The neighborhood is walkable, safe, and well-developed — but rents here are among the highest of any university area in Seoul.

Why the Ewha Area Works for Students

The streets around Ewha's main gate are one of the most densely concentrated shopping districts in Seoul — local fashion, cafes, restaurants, and everyday amenities are all within a short walk. The area is known for its safety infrastructure, with strong security systems, keycard access, and CCTV in most residential buildings — particularly important for students living alone. Yonsei and Sogang universities are both within walking distance, creating a large and diverse student community.
