Hanyang University ERICA Housing, Dorms & Korean Language Program: A Guide for Foreign Students
Hanyang University ERICA is in Ansan, about 40km southwest of Seoul — and that distance is the first thing worth being clear about. ERICA is not a Seoul campus. It's Ansan's only four-year university, it operates as a separate campus from Hanyang's Seoul campus in Wangsimni, and if you're picturing a Seoul student life within easy reach, the commute will change your mind.
What ERICA offers instead is a genuinely lower cost of living than any Seoul university district, one of Korea's cheapest university dormitories, and a Korean language program that costs less than most Seoul equivalents. This guide covers the fees, the dorm, and where students live.
Hanyang ERICA Map & Campus Address
📍Campus Address: 55 Hanyangdaehak-ro, Sangnok-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi-do (경기도 안산시 상록구 한양대학로 55)
The campus is served by Hanyang University at Ansan Station (한대앞역) on Line 4 and the Suin–Bundang Line. Note that despite the name, the station is not directly in front of campus — Hanyang runs a free shuttle bus from Exit 4, every 10–15 minutes on weekdays.

⚠️ On the Seoul commute: the campus is on Line 4, but Ansan to central Seoul is well over an hour each way. Students who want regular Seoul access should think of it as a weekend trip, not a daily option. If your reason for coming to Korea is Seoul specifically, ERICA is the wrong campus — and that's better to know now than after you've signed a lease.
Hanyang ERICA Korean Language Program
ERICA's Korean program is the New 2L® Korean Language Program, run by the ERICA International Education Institute (국제교육원). It's an intensive 10-week course, four semesters a year, 20 hours a week (four periods daily, Monday to Friday).
| Fee item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition (수업료) | ₩1,500,000 | Per 10-week semester — insurance included |
| Application fee (전형료) | ₩100,000 | New applicants only, on document submission |
| Total (first semester) | ₩1,600,000 |
Fees, class times, and the semester schedule below are from the ERICA International Education Institute.

Discount: Hanyang undergraduate and graduate students — currently enrolled, on leave of absence, or exchange students — receive a 10% tuition discount. Proof required (acceptance letter or enrollment certificate). Students deferring graduation are excluded, and the discount doesn't apply if degree tuition is unpaid.
💡 At ₩1,500,000 with insurance bundled in, ERICA's tuition is meaningfully below most Seoul language programs, which typically run ₩1,700,000–₩1,900,000 before insurance. Over four semesters that's a real difference.
Class Times
| Class | Schedule |
|---|---|
| Morning (오전반) | Mon–Fri, 09:00 – 12:50 |
| Afternoon (오후반) | Mon–Fri, 14:00 – 17:50 |
Placement into morning or afternoon depends on your level test result and institute capacity. The level test is conducted online. Afternoon classes may not open if enrollment is below minimum.
2026 Semester Schedule & Registration Deadlines
This is the part to read carefully. ERICA sets registration deadlines by nationality — three different closing dates for the same semester. Applicants from China and Mongolia face the earliest deadline, other nationalities get an extra week, and foreign nationals already residing in Korea get two extra weeks.
| Semester | Class period | Placement test | Registration: China & Mongolia | Registration: Other nationalities | Registration: Residents in Korea |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring 2026 | Mar 4 – May 14 | Feb 20, 10 AM | Dec 8, 2025 – Jan 9, 2026 | Dec 8, 2025 – Jan 16, 2026 | Dec 8, 2025 – Jan 23, 2026 |
| Summer 2026 | Jun 2 – Aug 12 | May 22, 10 AM | Mar 9 – Apr 3 | Mar 9 – Apr 10 | Mar 9 – Apr 17 |
| Fall 2026 | Sep 1 – Nov 13 | Aug 21, 10 AM | Jun 1 – Jul 10 | Jun 1 – Jul 17 | Jun 1 – Jul 24 |
| Winter 2026 | Dec 1 – Feb 12, 2027 | Nov 20, 10 AM | Sep 7 – Oct 9 | Sep 7 – Oct 16 | Sep 7 – Oct 23 |
Registration is first-come, first-served and can close early once capacity is reached — the published deadline is the outside limit, not a guarantee of a place.
Hanyang ERICA Dormitory — Changui Ingaewon (창의인재원)
Dorm Overview
Language program students can apply for Changui Ingaewon (창의인재원), one of ERICA's three dormitory buildings. Rooms are 2-person.
Hanyang ERICA Dorm Fee
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Room type | 2-person room (2인 1실) |
| Fee | Approx. ₩10,000 / day — meals not included |
Dorm details are from the ERICA International Education Institute dormitory page. Dorm website: http://hydorm.hanyang.ac.kr · Korean program dorm contact: +82-31-400-5847
At roughly ₩10,000/day, a 10-week semester works out to approximately ₩700,000 — among the cheapest university housing available to foreign students in the Seoul metropolitan area. Rate is subject to change.
Hanyang ERICA Dorm Application
⚠️ This is the critical constraint: you can only apply for the dorm at the time you register for the language program. Applications are not accepted after the registration period closes — there is no second window. Dorm fees must also be paid in advance of move-in.
If you're planning to use the dorm, the dorm decision and the program registration are a single decision made at the same moment. Miss it and you're finding off-campus housing in Ansan, likely from abroad.
Hanyang ERICA Off-Campus Housing
Students who don't get dorm places — or who want more independence — look at the areas around Hanyang University at Ansan Station (한대앞역) and Gojan-dong (고잔동), along with the residential blocks immediately surrounding campus in Sa-dong (사동).
The general picture: Ansan rent is substantially below Seoul university districts. That's the main financial argument for ERICA over a Seoul campus, and for students on tight budgets it's a strong one.
Ansan also has one of Korea's largest foreign resident populations, concentrated around Ansan Station's multicultural district — which means more multilingual services, more international grocery stores, and more people who've navigated the same paperwork you're navigating.
Hanyang ERICA Student Housing Cost — By Area
Here's the single most useful thing to know about ERICA housing costs: Ansan rent is dramatically lower than any Seoul university district. When Korean media reports "Hanyang University Studio rent 550K," that figure is for Hanyang's Seoul campus in Seongdong-gu — not ERICA. Don't use Seoul university rent numbers to budget for Ansan; they'll mislead you upward by a wide margin.
Around ERICA, the areas that matter are Sa-dong (사동), the residential blocks right next to campus; I-dong (이동), near the station; and Gojan-dong (고잔동), a little further toward central Ansan.
ℹ️ The ranges below combine recent transaction examples from public listing data with the general market picture. Actual prices move with a building's age, exact location, and season — and much of the newer, English-friendly stock never appears on public aggregators. One-room (원룸) — the standard student option
| Monthly rent (월세) | Deposit (보증금) | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical range | ₩300,000 – ₩500,000 | ₩2 mil – ₩8 mil |
Recent I-dong transaction examples: deposit ₩5 mil / rent ₩300,000; deposit ₩3 mil / rent ₩400,000; deposit ₩3 mil / rent ₩520,000. These are older or standard-spec rooms — newer or fully-furnished units run higher, but even those stay well below Seoul equivalents.
1.5-room / Two-room (1.5룸·투룸) — for couples or sharers
| Monthly rent (월세) | Deposit (보증금) | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical range | ₩450,000 – ₩700,000 | ₩5 mil – ₩15 mil |
Two-room and 1.5-room units are widely available around Sa-dong and I-dong, marketed directly at ERICA students and often at prices that would only get you a single room in Seoul. Worth considering if you're splitting with a roommate.
Officetel (오피스텔)
Newer officetels cluster around Gojan-dong and central Ansan rather than immediately next to campus. Expect higher deposits (₩5 mil+) and rents around ₩500,000–₩700,000, in exchange for newer buildings, better security, and in-unit facilities.
Goshiwon (고시원)
Less common around ERICA than in Seoul university districts, but some exist near the station. Budget option at roughly ₩250,000–₩400,000/month with little or no deposit — a fallback if you arrive without housing and need somewhere immediately.

ERICA is a real trade-off rather than a compromise. You give up Seoul — genuinely, not partially — and you get a cheaper language program, one of the country's most affordable dormitories, and rent that a Seoul student would find hard to believe. For students whose priority is studying Korean without burning through savings, that's a defensible choice. For students who came for Seoul, it isn't.
