Rainy-day Seoul plans? We ended up in this café instead — Ruheazit near Kyung Hee
Hey everyone! So my roommate and I had big plans for a proper Seoul outing today. Then it started pouring the second we woke up. We stood by the window going, "Umbrellas and wander around? Or just… duck into somewhere?" In the end, we decided to finally try a café near our school (Kyung Hee) that we'd been walking past forever. It's called Ruheazit. Spoiler: the rain didn't ruin our day — it made it better. 😌

📍 Where is it?
2nd floor, 18 Kyunghee-daero 4-gil, Dongdaemun-gu. It's right by the KHU main gate, so it's super walkable for international students, and you can get there on foot from Hoegi Station too.

- ⚠️ Good to know: one drink per person · laptops OK · pet-friendly · no parking
🎷 It's special from the stairs up
The entrance is on the 2nd floor with a Japanese poster out front, which somehow makes it easier to spot, not harder. On the way up the stairs, Goro-san from Solitary Gourmet greets you (lol). Push the door open and it all hits at once: old church pews, a DJ booth, big speakers, walls packed with LP records. The space isn't big or small — just cozy and filled to the brim with stuff, but somehow it feels curated rather than cluttered. Honestly, a ton of reviews say the same thing: it feels "like being in Japan," like a proper jazz kissa (old-school jazz café).
The music is the heart of this place. Jazz, R&B, soul — so many good tracks that I kept Shazam-ing without even meaning to. Sitting by the window with the rain outside and this playlist inside? Time just melts.

☕ What we ordered (with honest notes)
Keeping it real, since it's just us 😉
- French toast — the most-praised item across reviews, and yeah, it delivers. Soft and delicious, especially the vanilla version. (A few people pick up a hint of ginger, so just a heads-up.)
- Brownie (₩9,000) — rich, fudgy, deeply chocolatey. Maybe a bit much if you like your desserts light.
- Fruit milk (₩6,800) — tropical fruit syrup + coconut milk. A flavor I'd never had before, but it won us over.
- ☕ A heads-up on the coffee — the Americano is quite sour/acidic. If you're not a sour-coffee person, go for the cream Americano (₩5,500), a latte, or just pair a dessert with a non-coffee drink instead.
By day it's a café, but by night it leans a little bar-ish too — they've got highballs and cocktails (melon cocktail, ₩8,000). A lot of reviewers actually say the nighttime vibe is even better than the day.
💬 Final verdict from two roommates
It's photogenic enough that couples come here for dates, but it was just as perfect for two roommates sitting quietly with the rain and the music. The chairs aren't exactly plush and comfy — but honestly that's part of the old jazz-café charm. A "ruined" outing turned into us finding the coziest little corner in Seoul. Next time there's rain in the forecast, grab your roommate and run here. 🌧️🎶
Funny story: the only reason we knew about Ruheazit is because of Checkmate Korea. They're the ones who helped us find our place near Kyung Hee in the first place — and along the way they threw in local spots like this café too. So it wasn't just "here's an apartment," it was "here's your new neighborhood, and here's where to hang out in it." 🥹
So if you're reading this and still stressing about housing near campus — go take a look at the places around here through Checkmate Korea. Who knows, your next favorite rainy-day café might be a two-minute walk from your future front door. 🌧️🎶
